CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man allegedly shot his girlfriend in the face Tuesday night then rushed her to the hospital in her car and called police to say they’d been the victims of a phantom robbery.
Elijah Henry, 28, of Charlotte Amalie, was arrested at Oswald Harris Court about 7:25 p.m. Tuesday and charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault-domestic violence, third-degree assault-domestic violence, child abuse, mayhem, use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence (attempted murder), use of a firearm during a crime of violence (first-degree assault), use of a firearm during a crime of violence (third-degree assault), unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, according to the VIPD.
Henry himself called the 911 Emergency Call Center about 10:14 p.m. Tuesday and said that “someone had tried to rob him” and a female acquaintance had been shot, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“The victim was was brought to the Emergency Room by Henry in her private vehicle,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said. “She suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and face.”
The unnamed woman was treated for her injuries and admitted to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for follow-up treatment, Dratte said.
After further investigation of the incident an arrest warrant was issued for Elijah Henry and was signed by a Superior Court magistrate on Tuesday. Immediately afterwards, he was arrested on St. Thomas.
Henry was taken to the Richard N. Callwood Command by police where he was advised of his constitutional rights, booked, processed and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
