Bold Daylight Armed Robbery On Main Street St. Thomas Wednesday

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police are investigating a bold daylight armed robbery on Main Street St. Thomas on Wednesday afternoon.

Three armed, masked men entered Gold Land jewelry store on Dronningens Gade shortly before 3:21 p.m., smashed display cases and made off with an unspecified amount of merchandise, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Upon arrival, contact was made with the victim who stated that they ran to the back of the store to avoid being hurt from the assailants that entered the store with a firearm,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.

Dratte said the masked men were only in the store for about three minutes.

“Upon leaving the back area of the store they observed shattered glass in the store front and several pieces of jewelry missing,” he said.

That was when the victim called 911.

Police from the Richard N. Callwood Command Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Bureau went to Gold Land to investigate the armed robbery after the first call came in about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Gold Land specializes in gold and platinum jewelry as well as loose diamonds and gemstones.

The robbers parked near Precious Jewels beforehand.

Each store is near the intersection of Dronningens Gade and Store Tvaer Gade which leads to Veterans Drive near the Greenhouse Restaurant and parallels the Palm Passage shopping mall.

This case is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
