CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man went from hero to goat in just two short months.
Federal authorities said that Randolph Donovan, Jr., a man working as a stilt walker for the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) at the Cyril E. King Airport on Wednesday.
Donovan, of Estate Wintberg, was a fugitive from justice wanted by the State of Florida, according to the CBP.
Everyone from the governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands to CNN, hailed Donovan as a hero for helping at least two other men to rescue a wheelchair-bound Carnival Fascination passenger who fell off the WICO dock on August 17.
On Wednesday, everyone from the VIPD to the CBP was saying that Donovan was awaiting extradition on an “active warrent” from Florida.
Donovan was turned over to the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, according to VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte.
“Background checks revealed that Donovan Jr. has an active warrant in Florida and is considered a fugitive fleeing justice,” Dratte said.
