VIPD: St. Thomas Man Wanted In Savan Bar Assault Turns Himself In To Police

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man wanted for questioning in an assault incident eight days ago decided to turn himself in willingly to police on Monday, authorities said.

John Huyghue, Jr., 42 of Estate Thomas, was arrested at 6:30 a.m. Monday and charged with third-degree assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

On February 16, the victim reported to police that she was at Classico Bar located in Savan when Huyghue approached her, according to the VIPD.

“She stated that she Huyghue stepped outside the bar and had a conversation with him where she ended their relationship, then she went back inside the bar,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “She stated that Huyghue then approached her again and struck her in the head with a bottle, then grabbed her by her hair and pushed her to the ground.”

The unnamed victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention, police said.

Bail for Huyghue was denied when he was arrested due to the Domestic Violence statutes, but he was offered $15,000 bail at his advice-of-rights hearing.

He was unable to post bail and was remanded back to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC).
