Bovoni Man Arrested For Assault Of Relative On Sunday Morning: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a relative this weekend, authorities said.

Shakim Gumbs, 38, of Estate Bovoni Apartments was arrested at 9:14 a.m. Sunday and charged with simple assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Gumbs reportedly assaulted a relative, causing injuries that required medical attention,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

No bail was offered to Gumbs, as per the territory’s domestic violence statutes.

He was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

Detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit made the arrest, according to Derima.
