CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police were called to the Schneider Regional Medical Center to investigate a woman’s complaint that she had been raped by a home invader in St. Thomas on Saturday evening, authorities said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the Schneider Regional Medical Center Emergency Room in reference to the alleged rape incident at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“The victim stated that the suspect wore all black clothing, and forced his way into the residence,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The victim reported being physically and sexually assaulted by the suspect before his departure.”
The victim described the suspect as a Black male who stands about 6-feet. 2-inches tall and had a very heavy build, Derima said. The woman told police her attacker weighed at least 220 pounds.
As a follow-up to this initial report published Monday, the Virgin Islands Free Press asked Mr. Derima for more details about this case, but the spokesman said doing so might compromise the investigation.
“To protect the integrity of the investigation, we are unable to divulge much more at this moment,” he told the V.I. Free Press on Tuesday. “Detectives are currently chasing down promising leads.”
VIPD is urging anyone with information about this incident to call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 714-9801, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI at 1 (800) 222-8477.
“If you see, hear or know something, please say something,” the police spokesman said.
