20-Year-Old St. Croix Woman Found Shot To Death In Car On Melvin Evans Highway

FREDERIKSTED — Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old St. Croix woman who died from a gunshot wound inside a car on the highway Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Renyisha Rivera of St. Croix was identified by next of kin as the gunshot victim, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a female in a vehicle on the Melvin Evans Highway about 3:09 p.m. Sunday, according to the VIPD. The report said the woman had suffered a gunshot wound.

“Upon arrival, officers found a black Acura TSX in the westbound lane of the highway, just east of the Estate Paradise stoplights, with the gunshot victim inside,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The victim was pronounced dead by medical technicians on the scene.”

VIPD detectives and officers responded to a crime scene on the Melvin Evans Highway on Sunday afternoon where 20-year-old Renyisha Rivera died of a gunshot wound near Estate Paradise.

Detectives are urging anyone who may have been on the highway when this incident occurred, and who may have seen something, to contact police by calling 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1(800) 222-8477.

Rivera said on social media that she attended St. Croix Central High School in Kingshill.

“The VIPD is counting on your information to bring those responsible to justice,” the police spokesman said. “Remember, if you see something, say something.”
