Police Arrest St. Thomas Throat Slasher After Victim Tells Authorities Where To Look For Him: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police responded to a throat-slashing incident in Contant early Sunday morning and by late Sunday afternoon authorities had the St. Thomas suspect in official custody.

Allen “Buckwheat” Samuel, 46, of Estate Altona, was arrested at 5:09 p.m. Sunday and charged with first-degree assault and use of a dangerous weapon, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Contant where they found a male with a cut to the throat at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, according to the VIPD.

The victim was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) via ambulance for treatment of his injury.

“The victim identified Allen “Buckwheat” Samuel as the individual who assaulted him,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Police found Samuel at 5:09 p.m. Sunday after the victim told authorities where the suspect hangs out in the afternoon.

Samuel was taken into official custody at that time and bail was set at $75,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

“Sgt. Dwight Griffith of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and his team followed up on citizens’ tips on the whereabouts of the subject who was found later that day,” St. Thomas Police Chief Steven Phillip said. “Community members are taking action and helping us to be a safer community.”
