CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Detectives are investigating after a woman said she was assaulted in downtown Charlotte Amalie on Tuesday night, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched to Commandant Gade in St. Thomas in reference to an assault at 7:03 p.m. Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“The victim reported an unknown, Black male removed a sign from the front of her business and attempted to leave with it,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
When she tried to stop the suspect from removing the sign, she was assaulted, Derima said.
The suspect fled the scene, northward on Garden Street, on a white scooter, without the sign, police said. The victim received minor injuries.
The suspect is described as 24-32 years old, with a large build, weighing about 200 pounds, and standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing blue pants and a maroon shirt.
