Whim Man Arrested On Drug Trafficking Charges After Routine Traffic Stop: VIPD

FREDERIKSTED — A routine traffic stop Wednesday afternoon gave a 24-year-old Whim man a court date on drug trafficking charges, authorities said.

John Prince, Jr., of St. Croix, was arrested at 12:27 p.m. Wednesday and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as traffic violations, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers conducted a traffic stop of Prince’s vehicle on the Queen Mary Highway near the Castle Burke bus shanty, according to the VIPD.

“During the traffic stop, Prince was found in possession of more than the allowable amount of marijuana on a person, and was placed under arrest,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

JOHN PRINCE, JR. IS A REPEAT DRUG OFFENDER

Prince was one of three St. Croix men arrested in connection to a three-car accident on the Christiansted Bypass on December 1, 2019.

He, 30-year-old LeJaurne O. Sonson and 25-year-old Deshaun Stephen were each charged with reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, thereby causing an accident, and delaying and obstructing an officer during the course of his duties

Bail for Prince was set at $7,500. He posted bail and was released upon his own recognizance pending further court action.
