DPW Seeks To Beautify St. Thomas Roadsides Through Pilot Landscaping Project

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Virgin Islands Department of Public Works says it “has spearheaded several key initiatives with the goal of improving the quality of life for all Virgin Islanders.”

One of these projects is a Landscaping Pilot Program which officially mobilized in December, according to DPW. The contractor for this project is Fabiens Trucking, LLC.

The current project limits span between VITEMA and Nisky Center on St. Thomas. The intent is to expand to other areas on St. Thomas and across the entire territory.

“This landscaping pilot program is one aspect of the department’s beautification efforts,” DPW Commissioner Nelson Petty said, “Change does not happen overnight, but through collaborative efforts, change is inevitable.” Although beautification efforts are underway, the department is asking for the community’s support in keeping the territory clean.

Governor Albert Bryan said several plans are in the works and currently underway that are aligned with the department’s beautification efforts: added cleaning crews for town areas on St. Thomas and St. Croix, Adopt-A-Roadside legislation and working with the Administrator’s office to execute neighborhood clean-ups.

“The Department of Public Works appreciates the community’s patience as they work to improve road conditions throughout the territory,” DPW spokeswoman Renee Exius said.
