VIPD’s Mobile Command Center Sent To Dorsch Beach To Enforce COVID-19 Protocols

FREDERIKSTED — The Virgin Islands Police Department’s “Mobile Command Center” was deployed to a waterfront area of the west end port town as part of its strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols.

The Mobile Command Center van was deployed to Dorsch Beach near the Fisherman’s Market upon the orders of St. Croix Police Chief Sidney Elskoe, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Businesses and residents in the area filed several complaints, including excessive noise and reckless driving by ATV and motorcycle operators,” Chief Elskoe said. “The public has also been non-compliant with the COVID-19 mandate. VIPD presence was required to ensure the beaches were safe and cleared at the time mandated by the governor’s order.”

Deputy Police Commissioner Celvin G. Walwyn for Operations and VIPD Motor Pool Manager Ricardo Nieves personally inspected the van while it was operating at Dorsch beach on Sunday, according to the VIPD.

By all accounts, it was a successful enforcement operation and the Virgin Islands Free Press salutes the dedicated professionals of the VIPD for their continuing efforts at community policing, due diligence and emergency preparedness mock drills.
