4 Shooting Deaths In 5 Days Shocks St. Croix

FREDERIKSTED — Crucians reacted with shock and dismay on social media after waking up to the news this morning that four St. Croix men had died by gun violence within the last five days.

Here’s a V.I. Free Press sampling of what was being said on Facebook today:

“What the hell is going on what is young people why are you want to kill each other in such a small island it’s a shame that the police department in doing s*** to stop this crying and Governor Albert Bryan one people to vote for him two chief of police has been changed and the crime still the same or even worse,” Jose Acevedo said.

WEDNESDAY: Shooting victim #1: Jorge Luis Saldana, 24, of Aureo Diaz Heights on St. Croix.

“Yo WTFFFF?! Are we in the middle of world war 3 in st.croix?!!!! I can’t even refresh my news feels without seeing another killing. And this time it’s 2? (sad emoji) I know they haven’t even exposed the victims names yet but it’s already sad AF!!! Are we gonna stop doing this to ourselves?” Mohammad Abdallah said.

“Yes, when the misguided people don’t have a constant supply of illegal guns?” Edwin Thomas replied to Mohammad Abdallah.

“TBH most of these police know about the guns on the streets but since the owners of the guns is they friends they stay quiet 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ I’m sorry to say this but we need to flush out all VIPD officers and bring in federal undercover agents to run our police department and I promise you the killings will stop! We need real officers that would mentally abuse these criminals!!! I know it sound bad how I said it, but if they not scared of our local officers, they need tough punishment because jail don’t scare them!!!” Mohammad Abdallah replied to Edwin Thomas.

“Constant roadblocks is a good start!” Edwin Thomas replied to Mohammad Abdallah.

THURSDAY: Shooting victim #2: Jose “Eggie” Berrios, 47, of Machuchal on St. Croix.

“These officers are professionals in giving traffic tickets to fill there ticket book but can’t catch a single realistic criminal…!” Mohammad Abdallah replied to Edwin Thomas.

“When the police set up checkpoints people go on social media and post exactly where the checkpoints are.. it defeats the purpose and then they complain that the police isn’t doing anything,” Indira Merrick replied to Edwin Thomas.

“And even when they do their jobs and get an arrest our justice system defeats all their hard work by not giving swift justice to the victims and their families,” Marsha Lewis replied to Indira Merrick.

“All, every last one of these Officers need to be stripped of there duties and be exchanged for officers that are going to strictly do there job,” Mohammad Abdallah said.

SUNDAY: Shooting victim #3: Aurelio Rivera, 34, on St. Croix.

“We’re in the ‘eye-for-an-eye’ crime wave and as in the Middle East, guns only empowers the weak’s mind! It won’t ever stop because the NRA encourages the proliferation of guns all across America!

States like Wyoming with more guns than people have few murders but the USVI and Chicago the wanton slaughter is on! Our young people need not to retaliate because it’s an ongoing spiral!

The police are confused because they can’t be everywhere all the time!” Edwin Thomas replied to Mohammad Abdallah.

“You are (a) clown the marshal looking for you also,” Saab Saab said.

“Since you have all the answers, why don’t step up and apply for the VIPD. They are always looking for new officers who can make a difference,” Christian Stanton replied to Mohammad Abdallah.

“Not my thing. Don’t wanna be no cop….” Mohammad Abdallah replied to Christian Stanton.

SUNDAY: Shooting victim #4: Steven Hodge Jr., 18, on St. Croix.
