CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man has been arrested by Virgin Islands Police for stalking his ex-girlfriend and shooting at her car.
Curtis Petersen, 40, of Hospital Ground, was arrested at 3:22 p.m. Thursday and charged with stalking-domestic violence, destruction of property-domestic violence, illegal discharge of a firearm-domestic violence and harassment, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Petersen was placed under arrest after his ex-girlfriend reported that on multiple occasions the suspect has followed her, appeared to her residence, place of business and at her minor child’s sports workout and harassed her, according to the VIPD.
“His ex-girlfriend further reported that she decided to file a police report and her vehicle was later
shot by a high-powered rifle as a result of her filing the report,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said. “Investigation revealed that Mr. Petersen was seen on several video recordings following and harassing his ex-girlfriend.”
The investigation further revealed that a vehicle registered to Petersen and fitting the description with distinguishing marks was seen when shots were fired from the vehicle in the area of his ex-girlfriend’s driveway when her vehicle was shot at, the police spokesman said.
Petersen surrendered himself to officers at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday and he was placed under arrest and read his Miranda Rights, police said. He was not granted bail as per order of the Court while awaiting an advice-of-rights hearing.
