Man Arrested For Sexual Assault of Underage Girl on St. Croix

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man was charged with raping an underage girl after a concerned citizen reported the act to police last summer, authorities said.

Dante Edison James, 26, was arrested and charged with second-degree rape and use of a visual medium, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Bail for James was set at $75,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice-of-rights hearing set for today in Superior Court.

A concerned citizen went to the Ancilmo D. Marshall Command Police Station in Richmond on August 24, 2022 to report that a female minor was sexually assaulted by an adult male, Dante Edison James, according to the VIPD.

“Investigation into the case produced probable cause for a warrant for his arrest,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau in the St. Croix district obtained an arrest warrant for James that was signed on January 20, 2023, by a Magistrate Judge of the Superior Court, according to Dratte.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) executed the arrest on James on Monday, police said. He was placed under arrest, booked and processed.

On social media, James said he attended the St. Croix Educational Complex High School.
