CHRISTIANSTED — No word from the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) what caused a power outage that began about 8:30 p.m. tonight on St. Croix.

The extent of the outage was unknown, but WAPA said for sure it is taking down several areas in Frederiksted tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning (Saturday) from 12AM to 3AM, electricity will be interrupted to customers in these areas of St. Croix: Hannah’s Rest, Whim, William’s Delight, Frederiksted, Enfield Green, Mountain and Two Williams, WAPA said.

“The service interruption will allow crews to connect a new riser pole at the Randall “Doc” James Racetrack, and provide electricity to surrounding residents,” WAPA said. “Motorists traveling through these areas are asked to proceed with caution, for the safety of crews and other drivers.”

The work was originally scheduled for Friday morning but was “rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances.”
