PHILIPSBURG — Spirit Airlines announced today that it would be adding new routes and increasing service to some of the top destinations in the region.

Starting on April 12, Spirit will connect Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Cap-Haitien International Airport in Haiti’s second largest city, marking the second destination for Spirit on the island nation, complementing existing service to Port-au-Prince.

Spirit will also resume low-fare flights to St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport on May 5. The increased service comes as the Caribbean island continues to recover from the devastation of last year’s hurricanes.

“Spirit is proud to support the Caribbean with its recovery, having provided relief flights for more than 3,000 people and transported more than 120,000 pounds of relief supplies to date,” Spirit vice president Mark Kopczak said in a statement. “The courage and dedication of the people of the Caribbean have been more than impressive, and we are excited to bring more of our Guests there to enjoy all the islands have to offer.”

In addition, the airline will connect South Florida to St. Croix’s Henry E. Rohlsen Airport starting on May 24, marking Spirit’s second destination in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The carrier is also continuing its commitment to the Caribbean by expanding seasonal daily service from Fort Lauderdale to Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica.
