CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands notched two murders in two hours and twenty minutes today as crime continued to spiral out of control.
The first murder occurred on St. Croix near the Charles Harwood Medical Complex where a 27-year-old on-duty security guard working for R&T Unlimited Security Company was gunned down late Saturday night as a modular hospital was being built nearby.
On Thomas, an unidentified man was shot dead about 2:41 p.m. today in Estate Solyberg and left to die on the sidewalk.
The Virgin Islands Police Department said that police from the Ancilmo Marshall Command responded to a report of a person down in the Richmond area about 12:17 a.m. today.
When VIPD arrived on the crime scene they said that they found “the lifeless body of a female security guard that was working on the site,” according to VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte.
“The officers also discovered several spent casings and observed what appeared to be gunshot wound about the female’s body,” Dratte said.
EMTs arrived on the scene and were not able to find any vital signs on a woman down on the ground prior to their arrival, he said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was shot at her post sometime between 11:30 -12:00 and discovered by a co-worker.
The dead security guard was identified by next of kin as 27-year-old Kaiamesha Thomas of St. Croix.
Thomas was working for R&T Unlimited Security Company.
This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB).
