Philanthropic Organization Receives Check For $20,000 From Viya

CHRISTIANSTED — The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) has received a $20,000 CFVI 2019 ANGELS donation from Viya to further the Foundation’s work in the territory.

In presenting the donation to CFVI, Viya is continuing their commitment to support philanthropic initiatives that benefit our territory.

The importance of CFVI Angels was never more apparent than in 2017 when the Virgin Islands were devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria, and CFVI was in a position to help – immediately!

Because of the trust invested in us by our ANGELS, CFVI has been able to provide leadership and guidance during this critical period of recovery and building forward, providing hundreds of grants and scholarships on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.

Our giving reached into every corner of the Virgin Islands and affected thousands of lives. Since 1990, CFVI has partnered with community organizations, businesses and individuals.

Together we have demonstrated to the world our unshakable resolve to make the Virgin Islands a better place for all who love the Territory. Since the storms, CFVI has built on its modest but mighty infrastructure to receive contributions from more than 10,000 donors, and offer expanded services for fiscally sponsored projects and for additional giving and volunteering.

Annual Angel donations fund the necessary support services that CFVI provides to its donors, partners, projects, and programs, thereby minimizing fees and maximizing funds available for grant making and distribution back to the community.

CFVI Angels such as Viya make it possible! This donation from Viya places the company at the Excelsior level of CFVI 2019 Angels (those giving $20,000 – $24,999).

“We are honored to have Viya join this illustrious network of philanthropists in the Virgin Islands,” Dee Baecher-Brown, president of the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands said. “And it is particularly fitting to welcome Viya to the CFVI Angels network as they work towards Building Forward with partners in the Territory!”

“VIYA is committed to giving back to our communities in whatever way we can because we understand that the community has supported Viya throughout the years,” Viya CEO Geraldine Pitt said. “What is special about this sponsorship is that demonstrates the power of partnership and leading by example as the funds were mostly contributions from our vendors and employees. We are proud to partner with the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands because we share similar missions for rebuilding the Territory. Viya continues to be an exemplary partner in the economic development of the US Virgin Islands and this is just one of the many ways we demonstrate our commitment to its citizens.”

For more than 25 years the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands has been a catalyst for positive change in the Territory through initiatives committed to youth, learning, family support and the environment. With a professional staff and a volunteer Board of Directors composed of community leaders, CFVI is a trusted advocate and supporter of programs that ensure opportunity and sustainability for current and future generations. Most recently, CFVI has been serving as a vehicle for receiving and distributing funds to support hurricane relief efforts throughout the Territory. In addition to providing administrative oversight to over 100 named funds and programs, CFVI is focused on meeting the emergency, intermediate and long-term needs of children, youth and families in the aftermath of two Category 5 hurricanes. CFVI is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization entirely supported by individual donors, grants, trusts, corporate donations and estate planning.
