CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The effects of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s damaged main water line spilled over into today with at least one public school closing in St. Thomas — and two others affected.
The Virgin Islands Department of Education, St. Thomas – St. John District said that the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School will be closed today because of the problem affecting the downtown Charlotte Amalie area.
“The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority will continue working into Monday to address the issue,” the Education Department said on Facebook. “Cancryn faculty and staff, however, are to report at their regularly scheduled times.”
VIDE said that “an update on the status of school for Tuesday, April 9 will be issued as more information is made available.”
“The Charlotte Amalie High and Lockhart Elementary schools were also affected, but both campuses have cisterns that can be used in the interim,” according to VIDE.
