CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The VIPD’s Domestic Violence Unit went to the Chicken and Bowling in Havensight St. Thomas about a woman who said that she had been assaulted by Ruben George.

On Friday July 5, about 6:30 p.m., 33-year-old Ruben George was seen in the area of Havensight Mall and detained by Patrol Officers, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

“Criminal Investigation Bureau placed Ruben George under arrest for Assault in the third degree-domestic violence,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.

George was unable to post the $25,000 bail and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

A series of reports beginning in the 1990's revealed that there was everything from coliform bacteria to Cryptosporidium in locally-bottled St. Croix drinking water, according to a then-unpublished University of the Virgin Islands sampling. Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line. The Virgin Islands Free Press is the only Caribbean news source to regularly incorporate the findings of U.S. Freedom of Information Act requests.
