VIWMA Looking To Open Anguilla Landfill After Three Days Of Closings Due To Rainy Weather

FREDERIKSTED — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority Interim Executive Director Adrian Wade Taylor today took steps to mitigate road conditions inside the Anguilla landfill that were hazardous for solid waste haulers. Ongoing inclement weather caused a three-day temporary closure at the facility which adversely affected the St. Croix public.

“The slope inside the land fill was slippery and posed a hazard to contractors who were attempting maneuver their trucks to dispose of the municipal solid waste they collected,” Taylor said.

The Authority said it purchased gravel and applied it to the road, “stabilizing the area and allowing more than 15 haulers to drop off their loads at the facility (today)”  Solid waste was picked up from the Cotton Valley, Mon Bijou and Concordia (west) sites.

The Authority thanked the public for their patience while Waste Management addressed this issue.

“The safety of our contractors is paramount,” Taylor said, “as well as providing the best service possible to the public.”
