Barren Spot Man Gunned Down ‘By His Best Friend’ Late Wednesday Night

CHRISTIANSTED — A 23-year-old St. Croix man was shot to death late Wednesday night by a close friend, police sources and social media said.

Khamir Powell of Barren Spot was found dead by police sometime after 10:54 p.m. on Wednesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched police to Estate Barren Spot for a report of “discharging of shots.”

Upon the officers arrival at the location, they discovered an unresponsive black male and multiple spent casings on the asphalt surrounding a vehicle and the body on the side of the roadway.  

“The victim 23-year- old Khamir Powell of Barren Spot, sustained multiple shots to the body and succumbed to his injuries,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said. “He was identified by family members.”

The investigation into the latest fatal shooting on St. Croix “is ongoing,” according to Dratte.
