CRUZ BAY — A Haitian immigrant died after apparently taking his own life in St. John on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Virgin Islands Police Department officers from the Major Crime Unit responded to a residence in the area of Estate Adrian on St. John where they observed an unresponsive Feguera DeSquange about 3:16 p.m. on Friday.
Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene confirmed that the 45-year-old DeSequange had no vital signs.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that an apparent suicide occurred,” VIPD spokesman Karl Caesar said. “However, officers are awaiting official confirmation, when an autopsy is completed, and the cause of death is determined by the medical professionals.”
DeSquange’s body was transported to the Myrah Keating Smith Clinic on St. John pending transfer to the Schneider Regional Medical Center facility on St. Thomas.
The victim’s next of kin was notified of his death before the news of his death was released to the public.
This case is currently under investigation by the Major Crime Unit.
