CHRISTIANSTED — A hand-picked bodyguard for former Governor Kenneth E. Mapp was arrested on brutal assault charges this week, the Virgin Islands Free Press has learned.
Yahya K. Daniel, 40, of Estate St. John was arrested about 11:57 p.m. Thursday and charged with simple assault & battery-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The VIPD released the news of Daniel’s arrest at 7:27 p.m. today.
“Investigation revealed that Daniel assaulted a woman with whom he has an intimate relationship, leaving her with visible injuries,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Daniel was widely known as being the least professional of all of Mapp’s cadre of bodyguards and “dignity preservers.”
No bail was set for Daniel, as per the domestic violence statute, pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
But not everyone was impressed with the V.I. Free Press’ headline about Daniel.
“See how they fuck up 1st they a BRUTAL domestic assault and now u reading it’s a simple assault smdfh,” Hansom Heywood said on Facebook.
Apparently, Mr. Heywood believes that there is an “easy” domestic violence event.
However, the management of the V.I. Freep does not agree with Mr. Heywood.
The Virgin Islands Free Press denounces violence in all of its forms, most especially, heinous domestic violence involving a man against a woman.
We believe that every instance of domestic violence takes an untold physical and psychological toll on the victim.
As a side note, Hansom Heywood says on social media that he works as a “school monitor” for the Virgin Islands Department of Education.
John McCarthy, you need to get your story straight!!
Mr. Daniels, was never Governor Mapp’s bodyguard.
A retraction of that statement is in order
Well, then he was VIPD assigned to Mapp.
