St. Thomas’ Jose Garcia Jr. Accused Of Punching Woman At Bus Stop: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who allegedly punched a woman in the face at a bus stop faces an assault charge, authorities said.

Jose A. Garcia, Jr., 28 of Hospital Ground was arrested at 6:15 a.m. Monday and charged with simple assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“The victim reported that she was assaulted by Garcia, who is her daughter’s father, at the bus stop at Nisky Center,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Garcia struck the victim in the face with a closed fist, causing injuries.”

The victim was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Hospital via ambulance for her injuries, according to the VIPD.

Garcia was arrested by police detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit.

No bail was offered to Garcia as per the local domestic violence law.

He was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
