St. Thomas Man Allegedly Chokes Woman, Charged With Assault: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man was charged with assault after he allegedly choked a woman, authorities said.

Chandler Heath, 28, of Estate Thomas was arrested at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday and charged with second-degree assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“The victim reported that she was assaulted by Heath, who is her daughter’s father, on February 29,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “She stated that he came to her residence and strangled her as she opened her door, leaving minor injuries.”

Chandler was arrested by police detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit.

Bail was not offered to Heath as per the local domestic violence law.

He was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
