Man Who Fired Off Gunshots In Charlotte Amalie Is Quickly Arrested By VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who fired off gunshots in a crowded residential area has been arrested by police, authorities said

Jo’Quanni Cumberbatch, 26, of Anna’s Retreat, was arrested at 12:26 a.m. today and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Cumberbatch was identified by witnesses as the individual who discharged shots in a residential area,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Police officers retrieved a firearm from Cumberbatch’s residence, resulting in his arrest.”

Bail for Cumberbatch was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
