CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man was arrested after breaking his elderly neighbor’s arm with a pickaxe handle near Sunny Isle one month ago, authorities said.

Raymond Ward, 58, of Sion Hill, was served with an arrest warrant for third-degree assault, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Ward is alleged to have assaulted his neighbor, an elderly male, on March 29,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

The unnamed victim required medical attention at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for a laceration to the head and a broken arm, among other injuries, from the incident, according to Derima.

Bail for Ward was set at $30,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
