OOH, OOH THAT SMELL! Anguilla Dump On Fire Again On St. Croix: VIWMA

FREDERIKSTED — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority said that there was an active fire at the Anguilla Landfill at 8:04 p.m. tonight.

Virgin Islands Fire Service (VIFS) and VIWMA contractors and personnel are “working expeditiously to bring the fire under control. VIWMA advises the public and all haulers that landfill operations have been suspended,” according to VIWMA spokeswoman Melody Rames.

“Haulers are asked to hold waste until normal operating hours resume.
Residents with respiratory disorders/conditions should take precautions to minimize their exposure to smoke as wind directions change,” Rames said.

The Authority said it “will continue to provide updates regarding changes that may affect public health, the environment and haulers utilizing the
Landfill, Rames said.

“The VIWMA Preserving Paradise team apologizes for the inconvenience and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation,” she said.
