Mt. Pleasant Man Who Repeatedly Punched Girlfriend Charged With Assault & Battery: VIPD

FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix man who allegedly gave his girlfriend body blows instead of love was charged with assault and battery, authorities said.

Vernon Jones, Jr., 26, of Mt. Pleasant West was arrested at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday and charged with simple assault & battery-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

An adult female reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center that she was assaulted by Jones, according to the VIPD.

“The investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between Jones and the victim, and Jones assaulted the victim about the body with his fists, causing injury,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Bail was not offered to Jones, as per the territory’s domestic violence laws.

He was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
