VING Helps Distribute USDA ‘Farmers To Families’ Food Boxes At Lionel Roberts Stadium

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Virgin Islands National Guard assisted with distributing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farmers to Families food boxes at the Lionel Roberts Stadium in St. Thomas.

USDA purchased agricultural products under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to support families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program supplies the food boxes of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and meat products out to the community.

Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands (CCVI) lead the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program in the St. Thomas and St. John district.

Hundreds of community members gathered for the distribution of food items. Members of the VING through the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services assisted with the distribution of the food boxes, and maintained crowd control measures according to the CDC guidelines.

“Under the leadership and direction of General Kodjo S. Knox-Limbacker, Task Force Bravo answered the call to assist CCVI,” Captain Jahmel Leonard, task force bravo commander, said.” “Soldiers continue to remain ready, relevant, and responsive during the COVID-19 pandemic on several fronts to include airport screening, public service announcements, patient transportation, and commodity distribution. We will continue to serve our community and the Nation when called upon.”
