‘Careless’ Owner Of Security Guard Company Shoots Himself In The Leg On Sunday Morning: VIPD

FREDERIKSTED — Police are investigating a security company owner’s account of how he ended up with a bullet wound in the leg on Sunday morning.

Police were dispatched to a residence in Estate St. Georges in reference to an apparent gunshot victim at 9:26 a.m. Sunday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Officers traveled to the residence and made contact with an adult Black male who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

The man, the owner of a security company, stated he was unloading his firearms to secure them when the firearm he was handling accidentally went off, striking him in the leg, Derima said.

The victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center via ambulance for treatment.

This case is currently under active investigation.
