Police Commander Meets With Taxi Drivers To Hear Parking Gripes

CHRISTIANSTED — A representative of the Virgin Islands Police Department heard some of the concerns of taxi drivers near the taxi stand downtown this weekend.

Police Lt. Herminia Rivera, commander of the VIPD’s Christiansted district, met with Ferdinand “Mighty Pat” Samuel and other taxi drivers “to address their ongoing parking issues at the taxi stand.”

Lt. Rivera assured the taxi drivers that her officers will be “monitoring and enforcing the parking violations” of the motoring public in the area.

Taxi drivers have long complained that motorists park illegally in spaces allotted to the taxi association on King Street near the waterfront area without being ticketed for the offense.

The taxi stand is just north and east of Government House on King Street in Christiansted, St. Croix.

The VIPD posted the news of the meeting between the taxi drivers and the VIPD in a tweet on Twitter at 8:24 p.m. Friday.
