St. Croix Man Wanted For Murder, Surrenders To Police Within 3 Hours Of Arrest Warrant: VIPD

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man wanted for murder since Saturday afternoon voluntarily surrendered to police about three hours after authorities put out a wanted poster on him.

Kareem Richardson, 41, of Fisher Street, Christiansted, was in official custody as of 5:45 p.m. Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The VIPD issued a wanted poster on Richardson at 2:34 p.m. Saturday after an arrest warrant signed by a Superior Court judge was issued in his name.

Richardson was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in the homicide of Bomani K. Christian on November 1, according to the VIPD.

Bail for Richardson was set at $1,000,000, no 10 percent provision. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

St. Croix Chief of Police Sidney Elskoe praised the efforts of the detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and thanked the public for their assistance in circulating the wanted person poster of Richardson on social media.

“This is a great example of how the VIPD and the community can work together towards a public safety goal,” Chief Elskoe said. He encouraged everyone to contact police with tips about other open crimes by calling 911, the Crime Tip Line at (340) 778-4950, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
