St. Thomas Man Arrested For Stealing Sunglasses At Vision Center In Nisky Center: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The St. Thomas man wanted for a stealing a pair of sunglasses from a Nisky Center retail store last month was captured by police this morning, authorities said.

Leon Wilkins, 35, of no fixed address, was arrested at 11 a.m. today and charged with third-degree robbery, petit larceny and simple assault, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Wilkins was positively identified as the individual who removed sunglasses from the establishment, and threatened and assaulted an employee before he fled the location,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

He allegedly perpetrated the robbery-assault at Vision Center in Nisky Center on November 30, the VIPD said.

Bail for Wilkins was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

Police released the news of Wilkins’ arrest to Twitter at 6:48 p.m. today.
