St. Croix Man Who Told Police He Knew Woman Was Intoxicated Before Sex Charged With Rape: VIPD

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man who told police that he had sexual intercourse with a woman he met at a party whom he knew to be inebriated has been arrested and charged with rape, authorities said.

Rahmeek “OPM” Jackson, 22, of Candido Guadalupe Terrace, was arrested at 10 p.m. Friday and charged with first-degree rape, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“The victim in this incident reported to police that the night before, she was intoxicated from consuming alcohol at a party,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Jackson, who was also at the party, took advantage and forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her. Jackson admitted to the act and was placed under arrest.”

Jackson’s bail was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

“He admitted that the victim was intoxicated and he had sexual intercourse with her,” the VIPD said on Twitter. “Victim stated she did not give consent.”

He said on social media that he studied at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI).

“We need stronger laws on this type of behavior,” Funji Brunn said on Twitter. “Because if it was one of my daughters, I won’t say what I’ll do I’ll just do it.”

The VIPD spelled Jackson’s name “Rahmeak Jackson” and “Rahmek Jackson,” but Jackson himself spelled his name “Rahmeek ‘Opm’ Jackson” on social media.

The news of Jackson’s arrest was released to Twitter at 7:09 a.m. today.
