Grove Place Man Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges After Allegedly Beating, Strangling Woman: VIPD

FREDERIKSTED — A Grove Place man has been charged with assault after allegedly beating and strangling a St. Croix woman on Monday morning, authorities said.

Shakur A.C. Joseph, 23, of Croixville Apartments, was arrested at 6:46 p.m. Monday and charged with second-degree assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“At roughly 9:05 that morning, Joseph got into an altercation with a female victim, allegedly strangling and assaulting her,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Joseph was not offered bail, in accordance with the Virgin Islands’ domestic violence statutes. He was subsequently turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
