CRUZ BAY — The St. John resident who has been missing off of her luxury catamaran for five days is originally from the United Kingdom, the Virgin Islands Free Press has learned.
Sarm Joan Lillian Heslop, 41, is originally from Southampton, UK, as first reported by the Southern Daily Echo.
Heslop is described by police as being a Caucasian female of unknown height and weight with a tattoo on her left shoulder.
The Virgin Islands Police Department is calling for the community to help find her and is asking for any information about her disappearance.
Divers first began searching for the British woman on Wednesday, according to the VIPD.
The local police department first distributed Heslop’s age wrong to the public at 56 — the were only off by 15 years in original reports — she is actually 41.
The fact that Heslop is a British citizen means her disappearance has become an international incident for the overseas American territory of just 120,000 people. St. John itself only has 4,170 residents.
Southampton is a port city on England’s south coast.
