KINGSHILL — Four people were shot — including an 11-year-old girl — with two men fatally wounded — in a night of deadly violence that saw six people shot and three killed in the space of an hour and a half on St Croix.
The first shooting — which claimed two lives — happened at the mid-island Aureo Diaz Heights housing project, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received notification of shots fired about 7:47 p.m., VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Four shooting victims were transported to Luis Hospital where two of the victims succumbed to their injuries, Derima said.
“The tragedy is that our members of our community again were impacted by bloodshed” Police Commissioner Trevor Velinor said. “We have to do something about it, we will continue to do something about it.”
St. Croix Police Chief Sidney Elskoe today identified the shooting victims as Michael Ramos, Juan Velasquez, Guillermo Rivera, and the 11-year-old child.
Ramos and Velazquez died of their wounds at Juan F. Luis Hospital, Chief Elskoe added.
Less than two hours later, and less than a mile away, a second shooting would leave another victim dead, according to Derima.
The Emergency Call Center received reports of a shooting on Queen Mary Highway near the La Reine Shopping Center at 9:25 p.m.
