Light-Fingered Receptionist Uses Patient’s Credit Card To Make Purchases

FREDERIKSTED — A receptionist working in a medical office used a patient’s credit card information to buy things for herself under the guise of a past-due office bill.

Solly Lantigua, 23, of St. Croix, was arrested and charged with one count of fraudulent use of a credit card, embezzlement by clerks, agents, employees, obtaining money by false pretense and petit larceny, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

On May 6, 2022, Detectives from the Economic Crime Unit launched an investigation into a report of credit card fraud. 

The investigation revealed Solly Lantigua, who was employed as a administrative assistant, obtained a patient’s credit card information over the phone under the pretense of collecting payment for a past due bill, according to the VIPD.

“After obtaining the patient’s credit card information she used it to make personal purchases online,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.  

On September 1, 2022, Detectives from Economic Crime Unit executed an arrest warrant on 23-year-old Solly Lantigua where she was taken into official custody.

Bail for Lantigua was set at $30,000. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
