CHRISTIANSTED — Virgin Islands Police are investigating after officers were called to remove a trespasser in New Castle Coakley on Saturday.

The 911 Emergency Call Center reported a land owner who needed assistance at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The owner told police that Michael Gomez Belardo has been repeatedly trespassing on his property and littering, despite the posting of a plainly visible “no trespassing” sign, according to the VIPD.

Belardo, 65, was arrested and charged with disturbance of the peace by threats, attempted aggravated assault, littering and trespassing, the VIPD probable cause fact sheet states.

On Monday, a Superior Court judge ordered Belardo to get a psychiatric evaluation by September 19 so that he could determine if the suspect is eligible for bail.

Bail for Belardo was set at $1,000. The accused is not permitted to leave St. Croix and he will need to report to the Office of Probation every Tuesday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Belardo was also ordered not to enter the premises of the alleged victim, and to maintain a distance of 1,000 feet from him.
