Man Drives Home Injured After Being Shot @ Hospital Ground

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Authorities are searching for a gunman who shot a man in the chest in Hospital Ground on Saturday night.

Virgin Islands Police Department Patrol Division along with the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) responded to a gunshot victim at Schneider Regional Medical Center about 9:00 p.m. Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers met with the victim at the St. Thomas Hospital who told them he was in the area of Hospital Ground (also known as Round de Field) “enjoying himself,.” according to the VIPD.

“The victim stated while enjoying a drink or two a male walked up to him and fired a shot which struck him in the chest,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said. “The victim got in his vehicle and drove home.”

Shortly after the victim was transported via private vehicle to the hospital, according to Dratte. The victim had to be hospitalized for his injuries until further notice.

This case is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
