Man wanted in connection with shooting turns himself in

FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix man who was wanted in connection with a Friday afternoon shooting turned himself in to the Virgin Islands Police Department on Monday morning.

Law enforcement issued a wanted bulletin for Randy Lawrence over the weekend after receiving reports of a gunshot victim around 4:26 p.m. on Friday in Estate Mountain. Detectives arrived at the scene and found a man lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound to the stomach.

The victim was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where he received emergency surgery. He was described by police on Saturday morning as being in serious, but stable, condition.

According to police, Lawrence and the victim had been socializing at the restaurant on Friday afternoon before entering into an argument. At some point, Lawrence allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and shot the other man.

At 8 a.m. on Monday, Lawrence turned himself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where he was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence.

His bail was set at $100,000 and he was taken to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice-of-rights hearing, scheduled for today.
