CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A routine traffic stop in St. Thomas on Wednesday led to the arrest of a teenager on illegal gun charges, authorities said.
Amarye Farrell, 19, was arrested Wednesday and charged with constructive possession of a firearm with an
obliterated serial number, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The case began at 12:59 a.m. Wednesday, when VIPD officers were conducting a traffic stop on a white Acura in the area of Dorothy Lockhart Elskoe Drive (Raphune Hill) when the driver of the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed towards Alton Adams Drive, according to the VIPD.

VIPD mug shot of Amarye Farrell, 19, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
“The driver and a passenger abandoned the vehicle in the area of Third Street and both were seen fleeing
with firearms towards First Avenue,” VIPD spokeswoman Sakeeda Freeman said. “When officers approached the vehicle, they discovered a third male occupant dressed in all black seated in the rear of the vehicle.”
The male was later identified as 19-year-old Amarye Farrell and was found within reach of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and a loaded extended magazine, according to Freeman.
Bail for Farrell was set at $60,000. Unable to post bail, he was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections and jailed.
Farrell was scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court yesterday.
This case remains under investigation.
