CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who was allegedly rolling and smoking joints in front of a school while it was in session was arrested on a drug charge.
Lewis Lebron, 49, was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Special Operations Bureau officers got a tip from the Virgin Islands Police Department Intel Unit at 12:30 p.m. on February 2 about a man illegally distributing a controlled substance in front of a school during school hours the Altona & Welgunst area of St. Thomas, according to the VIPD.

The Intel Unit relayed that they observed and recorded a black male, later identified as 49-year-old Lewis Lebron, make three separate hand-to-hand transactions with unknown individuals, police said.
“They also observed Lebron rolling what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette three separate times and smoking them,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.
When officers met with Lebron, they found him “in possession of several small plastic bags containing a green leafy substance that were field tested and proved to be marijuana,” according to Chichester.
Lebron also had an undetermined amount of cash in multiple denominations, according to police.
The suspect was read his Miranda Rights, booked and processed.
Bail for Lebron was set at $7,500.00. Unable to post bail, he was jailed.
Lebron is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court.
