2 intruders shoot homeowner in home invasion on St. John

CRUZ BAY — Police are investigating after a homeowner was shot by two intruders in St. John on Tuesday night, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to a reported burglary at an address in Bellevue Village at 10:00 p.m., the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Responding law enforcement personnel encountered a male victim who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds, according to the VIPD.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was at his residence when a visitor knocked at the door, VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said. “The victim opened his door to greet the visitor and upon doing so, two unknown subjects forced themselves into his home.”

The victim “tussled with one of the unknown subjects for a few moments and when the victim was able to break away, the unknown male discharged a firearm striking the victim multiple times,” according to Chichester.

The two unknown males then left the area in an unknown direction, she said.

The victim was later transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

This case remains under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
