Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Anguilla this morning

THE VALLEY — Anguilla residents felt a 4.2-magnitude earthquake early this morning, authorities said. No injuries were reported,

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake’s epicenter hit about 32 miles (52 kilometers north-northwest of Sandy Ground Village, Anguilla.

The origination point hit about 42 miles (68 kilometers) from Sint Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles, according to the USGS.

The Anguillan tumbler follows a rash of “moderate” earthquakes in the Caribbean, most recently a 5.0 earthquake that struck 19 miles (31 kilometers) from Saint-Joseph in Martinique on March 25, the USGS said.

That quake was also felt in nearby Dominica, area residents said.
