CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas resident is facing domestic violence-related charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman and stole her gold chain, authorities said.
Dinet Estime, 40, was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, grand larceny-domestic violence, simple assault-domestic violence and disturbance of the peace-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The case began about 5:00 p.m. on March 11 when a woman identified Dinet as the man who assaulted her and took her gold chain on December 6, 2024, according to the VIPD.

The victim stated that “Estime approached her and her current boyfriend and began creating a disturbance,” police saidi.
“She said that Estime slapped her, grabbed her by her neck, then proceeded to yank her gold
jewelry from her neck,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.
The victim complained of neck pain and sustained injuries as a result of the assault and robbery, according to Chichester.
Estime eventually turned himself into the Domestic Violence Unit where he was advised of his rights and questioned about the alleged incident, according to police.
“He admitted to taking the chain and pendant but denied the other allegations,” Chichester said.
At that time, Estime was placed under arrest for domestic violence and the charges above.
No bail was offered to Estime as per the territory’s domestic violence laws. The suspect was then transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.
Estime is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at Superior Court in the Farrelly Justice Complex in Charlotte Amalie.
