CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas motorist gallivanting around Rock City with a pound of marijuana in his vehicle was undone after cops smelled weed during a routine traffic stop.
Kenney Linton, 32, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The case began on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at approximately 3:42 p.m., when officers from the VIPD’s Special Operations Bureau conducted a traffic stop on Veteran’s Drive after observing a vehicle with excessive tint on the front windshield, a violation of local traffic laws, according to the VIPD.

During the stop, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, police said.
As the driver, Linton, rolled down the window, officers observed a suspicious “container” inside the vehicle, according to police.
“Upon further investigation and a subsequent search, officers discovered approximately one pound of marijuana,” VIPD spokeswoman Sakeeda Freeman said.
Linton admitted ownership of the marijuana and was placed under arrest for the charges above, according to Freeman.
The suspect was also cited for excessive window tint violations, she said.
Linton was transported to the Richard N. Callwood Command, where he was booked and processed.
He was then transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.
Linton was scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court today.
